Spalted Chestnut by Sward Designs
Earrings are made in a range of shapes and different woods on hanging earwires. Because of the variations found in natural wood, no two pieces are exactly the same, and designs change depending on the wood available.
Hello, my name is Sue. I have been a keen crafts person all my life and discovered the joy of working with wood a few years ago thanks to my brother.
I take my design inspiration from the outdoor environment. Through my background as a plant ecologist, I learned to observe the range of different shapes and forms found in nature, and to appreciate the beauty of natural materials. This is reflected in my work, where I use minimum embellishments to allow the wood to speak for itself.
The fascination to me as an artist is not knowing exactly what a new piece of wood will look like until it is cut or turned on the lathe. Only then will I decide what to create, and once a piece of wood is used up, it cannot ever be replaced with an exact replica, meaning that each new design is fresh.
I hope you like my creations, and appreciate the beauty of natural wood as much as I do.
