Philip Stuttard - York
Acrylic, tin & resin
My first steps into the world of art was as a free-lance cartoonist for magazines & publications such as the 'Mail on Sunday'.
In the mid 80's I became a professional air-brush artist, I had a shop/studio in London where I specialised in painting album covers onto tour jackets for leading rock bands, promotional wear and commissions, happily indulging myself and my love of art.
I eventually moved to Yorkshire and joined 'Washington Green' Fine Art Publishers, it was then I started painting my sheep and men in flat caps! Working for a publishing company gave me the opportunity to sell my work around the world. I also sculpted my own range of giftware (sheep etc) for 'Border Fine Arts'.
It was about this time that I started to experiment with sculpting in tin (old tin cans) strange bog hopping birds & tin can sheep, although in this quest to transform the humble bean-tin into a work of art - I have gone through many an industrial sized pack of elasto-plast for my fingers & thumbs!
