The Enlightened Hound
Printmaker: linocut, photopolymer late
Debbie Kendall is the printmaker behind The Enlightened Hound. From her attic studio, with views over the treetops, she hand-print original art, inspired by her love of dogs. Producing work that others can connect with is important to me. She uses hand-lettered words and illustration to interpret and narrate the unique connection people have with their dogs.
Her hand-drawn lettering is deliberately idiosyncratic and wonky and she combines it with illustration and vintage decorative elements typical of 19th century ephemera.
She uses relief printmaking techniques, , especially linocutting, to create my original dog art. She loves the 'physicality' of printmaking - the sticky, messy inks, the sharp gouges for linocutting, the hiss of the brayer as it rolls out the ink, the mechanical clanking of the press and the thrill of pulling the paper from the inked plate to reveal the image.
