Fiona Gill is an award winning textile artist based in the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales. She works under her social media name, Marmaladerose and is best known for her wildlife artworks created from wool using the wet felting technique. These stunning ‘wool paintings’ are created completely freehand and are full of wonderful textures and colour, which brings a breath of life to each subject.
Being a self confessed introvert, her work is driven by the need to create an escape from the pressures of modern day living and a desire to make beautiful artwork that will hopefully bring a smile to the viewer.
In a change of discipline…. Fiona’s first ever hand embroidered portrait won the national Knitting and Stitching Shows Self Portrait Competition in 2020 and she is hoping to explore this medium more fully, using hand stitching to create beautiful portraits of everyday people.
Fiona has received invitations to teach in Australia, exhibit in Hong Kong and guest present on a TV craft channel. Her work has been featured in textile magazines and books and exhibited with the Worshipful Guild of Broderers in London. She regularly exhibits her work in Cherrydidi and has work in private collections as far afield as Canada, USA, Australia and New Zealand.
