Turtle Doves

We use cashmere for all Turtle Dove products. There are several really good reasons for investing in cashmere, whether it's as a gift for a loved one or a treat for you. Here are some things it's useful to know about cashmere wool and how it's made.

Cashmere is known for its extreme softness, warmth and lustrous quality which are due to its fine fibres. The fineness of the fibre is typically between 7 and 19 microns (ordinary sheep's wool has a diameter of about 36 microns) which means that it is very soft to touch and super-warm too. The fibre itself comes from a goat and, although originally from the Kashmir Valley in Northern India it is now farmed in Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan and Iran as well as Australia, New Zealand and Scotland. The cashmere wool is collected by combing the goats in the Spring to collect the natural shedding of the winter under-coat. As with any farming which has intensified over the years there are questions in some areas about the treatment of cashmere goats, and the land they are farmed on. We are aware of this and are working on a connection with a US based NGO to do our bit to help support creating a sustainable future for the industry.

So, what makes our cashmere different is that we are re-using post-consumer cashmere knitwear which has been used & enjoyed then discarded when shrunk or damaged. We wash every garment and carefully choose which bits of it can be recycled into new items. Every piece that we use is different, some has a fluffy aura and some not but we are really strict about making sure that every piece we make is from 100% cashmere knitwear. All our cashmere can be machine washed on a cold setting and has been made with love and care.
