Day 32 of Mrs H’s Social Media Detox - Cut off for 12 days

Hello!

Not only have I been off social media for 32 days....

Our phone line was knocked down by a tree when Storm Daragh raged through Arran a while back! Twelve days of no phone, yes 12 days, which meant 12 days of no internet too and no mobile phone (as we WiFi call only)! What a 12 days!

Could you cope?

The kids did well, lots of dog walking, kids after school clubs, Christmas crafting, colouring in, board games, reading books, crappy terrestrial TV and maybe just a little more moaning than usual. They missed their music terribly.

Ade and I constantly groaned - we are so reliant on the internet! There was the obvious challenge - operating an online gift shop with the run up to Christmas without the internet....you can imagine how tricky this has been - but all orders went in the post this morning - phew - as always THANK YOU  for continuing to support Zak the Collie Dog and The Cherrydidi Online Shop!

I never realised how much we googled 'stuff' - from recipes (my black current cheesecake created from memory wasn't up to its usual standards!), to checking tides for swimming, to song lyrics, natural remedies for ailments, audio books, you tube clips, particularly for my pottery (on with mastering trimming pots!), Met office, technical fixes for things, general online research...I could go on and on. What a polava!

There were positives - we seemed less distracted and chatted more as a family, we forged relationships with our elderly neighbours, the dogs received an increase in daily love, I potted without an expert thrower on youtube in the background and I got to hang out in the local deli - accessing the internet whilst supping strong coffee and mingling with the lovely locals as they picked up their groceries.

Ade found time to create some new designs for Zak the Collie Dog, following the Boat House Pop-Up - so watch this space (he won't let me post them here as they're not quite finished yet!)

I work one day a week for an environmental charity in their Active Travel team - I managed an online meeting about rolling out their new Adapted bike and have promised to make up my time later in the week (lovely to have a sympathetic employer). Mind you I generally put in way more than 8 hours a week as I love what they stand for, helpin make the island a greener and more sustainable place to live....the Festive off-road eBike ride last week was a hit!

So, thats about it from me, the Harmers are feeling Christmassy - mulled wine has been on the go all week, we've had Christmas parties to attend, the Christmas panto was fabulous - Little Red Riding Hood, Mikey's nativity play was sweet too, the tri club's Santa dash went down a storm and our tree / gorgeous handmade decs are up.

So until next time - we wish you and your furry friends a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
