Day 73 of Mrs H’s Social Media Detox - New Year's Resolutions and The MASSIVE Winter SALE
Hello there, it's been a while since I blogged and I've kind of missed it!
Holidays - A quick trip to our beloved Lakes (mainly to see sister Tas!) was a lovely start to the holidays (Oh and btw Tas won the grooming competition - thanks to all who voted - for those who aren't aware Zak the Collie Dog’s daughter, Tasmin is the pub dog at, in our opinion, the best pub in Cumbria https://www.theoldcrownpub.co.uk/).
This was them followed by a very relaxing family Christmas and New Year for the Harmers on Arran. Lots of good food, dog walks, games and laughs - just what we needed. Felt blessed to be able to spend so much time with the kids, dogs and Mr H of course ❤️
Winter swimming - My winter swimming has kept me free of any bugs - have been loving the lochs although only managing a few minutes in, the longer sea swims with my wetsuit have been bracing too!
Screen Time for Teenagers - Screen time was a challenge, how does everyone manage it with teenage kids…Any advice out there? We try to keep to WHO’s recommendations, 5-17 years old: Generally no more than two hours per day, except for homework. It's quite hard to keep to two hours, what do you think?
I’m still coping being off social media however I did seem to miss the connections with far away friends over Christmas - a photo/text to those I was thinking about and receiving a response seemed to put it right though.
2025 Plans - Lots of plans for 2025, and the New Years resolutions seem to be sticking, although a little slow getting off the mark with the fitness ones.
Mine…
Kindness
Living sustainably
Health & wellbeing
Pilates is good for you - I’m enjoying a morning Pilates routine - can recommend this workout, really gets my back limbered up for the day - it's only 13 minutes so really have no excuses to keep it up https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oQYBFhPbslw
Learning new skills - Ade & I have both grafted in January to turn our little cottage around for our lovely new tenants, I’m surprisingly enthused to be learning new practical/DIY skills - I’ve felt a real sense of achievement!
What did people do before You Tube?! In fact, there's no way I would have progressed throwing pots without all the amazing online video instructions - whenever I'm throwing I always have someone special providing tips in the background! One of my favourites although he is very precise - Florian Gadsby! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUAwDPUNyrs
Any good DIY ones to mention or throwing pots for that matter - please add in the comments below?
Kindness - Storm Eowyn was scary for everyone impacted, a big fir tree came down at the back of our house, no major damage but we were so touched that neighbours came out in force with their chain saws to clear the way the following day. Kindness is a wonderful thing. Lots of damage across the island but lovely to see communities pulling together to support one another.
Living Sustainably - Working part time for an environmental charity has brought to my attention all sorts of impactful green measures. We’re REALLY excited to be making our home more green & sustainable - we’re replacing our oil tank/heating system with an air source heat pump along with improving our insulation in the loft and walls - not only will our house emit less CO2 it will be way more affordable to run - and the measures are 90% grant funded too! https://www.homeenergyscotland.org/ Feel free to contact me if you need any advice on starting the process (across the UK), email info@cherrydidi.com. If every household in the UK did this we would make a HUGE impact to climate change.
